Hydraulic failures strand a machine exactly where it stands, usually with a load in the air and a crew waiting on it. Most of them can be put right in the field once the cause has been properly found rather than guessed at.
A blown hose is often a symptom rather than the problem. If the same line keeps letting go, something upstream is causing it, and replacing hose after hose is an expensive way to avoid finding out what.

Safety on site
Hydraulic systems hold pressure long after the machine is shut down, and a pinhole leak can inject fluid straight through skin. If you have a hydraulic failure, secure the machine, keep people away from suspected leaks and let a technician deal with it.
